Biostratigraphy of Cretaceous-Neogene sedimentary infill of the Mamfe basin, southwest Cameroon: Paleoclimate implication

نویسندگان

چکیده

A palynological investigation of sixteen (16) outcrops from Mamfe Basin, southwest Cameroon, has been carried out using spores, pollen and organic matter components to establish the biostratigraphic framework basin reconstruct depositional paleoclimatic conditions. The inferred climatic trend is based on distribution pattern recovered species, mainly vertical occurrence disappearance, for time window investigated. Particulate are represented by gymnosperm grain Classopollis spp. opaque phytoclasts. Some fern spores such as Cicatricosisporites venustus, Verrucatosporites spp., Polypodiisporites aff. specious, Deltoidospora Laevigatosporites Polypodiaceoisporites Foveotriletes ornatus occur in significant amounts. Angiosperm pollen, including Echitricolporites spinosus, Monoporopollenites annulatus, Pachydermites diederixi Sabicea-type, locally present. Araucariacites Afropollis jardinus less abundant, depending stratigraphic level. assemblage suggests an age ranging early Barremian Cenomanian. Additionally, we identified a level dated Miocene Pleistocene one sections. Hygrophilous flora pteridophyte (Cyathidites spp.) angiosperm (Afropollis jardinus) present compared xerophytic (Classopollis) along studied sections, indicating variation. Variation palynomorph assemblages led define three settings paleoclimate: 1) humid conditions prior coinciding with opening Atlantic Ocean; 2) arid semi-arid intermittent short-lived phases Cenomanian; 3) onwards. Thus, allows constraining infill accessing states hinterland where powerful climate proxies currently very limited. appears record regional rather than local fluctuations.

Calcareous nannofossils biostratigraphy of the Campanian-Danian interval, Gurpi Formation in the Zagros Basin, SouthWest Iran

This study presents calcareous nannofossils biostratigraphy of the Campanian‒Danian interval at the Gurpi Formation in the southwest of Ilam Province, in the Zagros Basin. The studied sequence of the Gurpi Formation mainly consists of marly shale and limestones. The thickness of Gurpi Formation was measured as approximately 230 m. Forty-five species belonging to twenty-eight genera were recorde...

Sedimentology, mineralogy and sedimentary geochemistry of the Late Quaternary sedimentary sequence of Gavkhoni Playa by looking at the paleoclimate

The sediments of the Playa Lake are sensitive indicators of local climates that any change in climate, hydrology, and sedimentary environment will cause changes in the physical and chemical properties of the sediments. These sediments create a valuable and important archive with high resolution to examine these changes in the past. One method of studying climate change during quaternary and oft...

Neogene growth of the sedimentary organic carbon reservoir

We develop a recycling model using 13C/12C mass balance for net growth/loss of the sedimentary organic carbon (Corg) reservoir, and apply it to the Neogene bulk marine carbonate δ13C record. The model allows for variations in photosynthetic fractionation factors, carbon cycling rates, and the isotopic composition of riverine carbon inputs to the oceans. The sign of the net flux term is controll...

Edge detection in gravity field of the Gheshm sedimentary basin

Edge detection and edge enhancement techniques play an essential role in interpreting potential field data. This paper describes the application of various edge detection techniques to gravity data in order to delineate the edges of subsurface structures. The edge detection methods comprise analytic signal, total horizontal derivative (THDR), theta angle, tilt angle, hyperbolic of tilt angle (H...
